City of Apples

Almaty (formerly Alma-ata, formerly Verny), is known as the city of apples. It is a beautiful city with a mountainous background. It used to be the national capital of Kazakhstan until the capital was moved to Astana (formerly Akmola) last year. The only thing I disliked about Almaty was the pollution which you can see hovering over the streets sometimes. It was not enough to discourage me from visiting that city whenever I had some free time.
